Some days I take a minute and look at a Bio-Blog from a BIOMINDS fellow, so I decide to dedicate this additional page to comment a little bit of each one. Through this experience I find out not only what other BIOMINDS fellows are doing at their labs, but I get to know other students that love what I love the most -to do research- I hope that you enjoy their work, as I did!!!
Abby is a student of Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. She works at the lab of Dr. González studying the control of gene expression at the post-transcriptional level in eukaryotic cells. She focuses her research in the Nonsense-Mediated mRNA decay (NMD) pathway, an mRNA surveillance mechanism that is responsible for the rapid turnover of mRNAs harboring premature termination codons.
Andrea is a student at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. She works at the lab of Dr. González studying the role of the phosphorylations in the Nonsense-Mediated mRNA (NMD) pathway and the finalization of the translation processes.
Daisy is a student of Biology at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. She works at the lab of Dr. González studying the post-transcriptional regulation of IL-3 in humans.
Agnes is a student of Biotechnology at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. She works at the lab of Dr. Rodríguez doing theorical research, that includes reading papers and doing some informatics.
5. Ana Isabel Velázquez Mañana
Ana is a student at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. She works at the lab of Dr. Montalvo studying the recombinant expression and possible role in Biotechnology of Glycosyl hydrolase genes from Hyperthermophiles isolated from Puerto Rico.
6. Laura
Laura is a student of Chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. She works at a laboratory studying TNT and a way of removing this toxin from the bodies of water in a cheap and efficient way.
7. Samuel
Samuel is a student at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. He works at a laboratory studying the mechanism that underlies the temporary permeabilization of the cellular membrane, called cellular electroporation.
Grace is a student of Industrial Biotechnology at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. She works at the lab of Dr. López studying the reactive mechanisms of hemoglobin Hb1 with the hemoglobin H2S.
